Piece from the Mâlain mine in Burgundy, France, highlighting a nodule of gypsum of red color (the rarest).
Now forbidden to access, this old mine is particularly known for its rare gypsum nodules, trapped in a clay marl matrix.
Each nodule was carefully extracted from its gangue, then polished and varnished to highlight its color and appearance.
